WHAT COULD BE BETTER THAN PRODUCING A “POSITIVE FEELING WITH EACH OTHER FILM?  “NO NEGATIVE SPEAK” PART 4 OF 4

WEST OAKLAND STORIES FILM PREMIERE AT McCLYMONDS HIGH SCHOOL

MARCH 2015.  “OAKLAND IS NOT BAD”

Now you hear so much positive things about Black Oakland then you ever have. We the Black Elders of the of this Movement have worked very hard at creating this Positive Movement.

See photos of West Oakland Black Pioneers fondly reminiscing at the West Oakland Stories (WOS) FILM PREMIERE at McCLYMONDS High School.

It is up to us to show the world who we are. Get involved and share this message.

This film is a positive image that you do not see in today’s media depiction of Black Oakland or any other U.S. urban city.  Join me in taking a step in creating a New Positive Feeling Movement About Black People in Oakland, California.

When you see, hear, and feel Black Oakland Pioneers in this film you will naturally begin to understand who we are.  This will awaken you especially the young generations and they will feel the positive power of the film and what Pioneer Poet, Carol Westbrook Curtis, is feeling and expresses at the end of the film.  She said “I know who I am now”.  Black Oakland you have forgotten who you are.

LAST OF THE LIVING BLACK OAKLAND PIONEERS:

There are people who are part of the Slave System in Oakland that don’t want you to see this film because it will wake you up.  This is why I produced this film so that we can begin to start a new Positive Feeling Movement in Black Oakland.

The West Oakland Stories film is a collection of Black Pioneers who lived in West Oakland and Oakland in the 40s, 50s, and 60s talking in a down-to-earth conversation about how special it was to grow up in West Oakland during that time. Most of us did not realize it at that time but now we know how different, unique, and special we were.

We placed West Oakland and Oakland on the map in our time across this country and the world. No one should forget that. We must honor the stories and images of the Black Pioneers who lived this experience because we will not be here much longer.

This film is not asking to be approved by some of the Slave System appointed leaders, community organization leaders, religious leaders, or the politician.  This film is approved by the Oakland Black Pioneers and their approval is coming right out of their spirits and mouths as shown in the WOS film.

This is the prototype film that will spread the movement across this country, and it started in Oakland its rightful place of Black leadership.

Much Respect

“NO NEGATIVE SPEAK” (NNS) WITH EACH OTHER

“NO NEGATIVE SPEAK” (NNS) with each other brings about a long happy positive life and keeps you looking like this (See our picture) Ed and Faye Howard. We are just two of the Oakland Black Pioneer Elders testifying to using NNS with each other for 63 years.

We met at Oakland Merritt City College when it was on Grove Street now Martin Luther King Blvd. – the same college that Bobby Seal and Huey Newton met each other and started the Black Panther Party and also Dr. Melvin Newton, Huey’s older brother, was at Merritt College with the Mrs. and me. We all knew each other because it was only a handful of Black people going to Merritt City College at that time. We were there a few years before Bobby and Huey.

The Elders are asking you to say “NO NEGATIVE SPEAK” to yourself two times a day for a week because you must make yourself aware first of negativity. NNS wakes you up in a positive way if you just say the words. Saying NNS makes everyone aware of negativity. Positive people make other people positive.

Mailbag: Who Runs WOSPFM? Who Is Invited to Contribute, and How Can We Get Involved to Help Out?

WOSPFM is run by community members just like you. We’re a group made up of elders, professionals, and students who are all brought together by the mission of spreading positivity throughout the community.

Going further, we believe that by sharing the stories from our elders and highlighting the positive elements of those stories, we can show how our elders’ past experiences continue to live on in the present.

There’s a lot of ways to go about achieving our mission. Right now we’re looking for contributors of all kinds. We’re a small team, so writers are invited to help us create blog posts about our communities, psychologists and physicians to share wellness tips and ideas, and all other elders who are willing to share stories from their past for other people to listen to and learn from.

If you would like to help but you don’t fit any of the previous descriptions, we could also use help managing our social media accounts, applying for grants, and many, many other tasks.

Our invitation to contribute extends to everyone who is willing to learn and is able to volunteer on a consistent basis. You can inquire further by emailing us at westoaklandstories@gmail.com.

ED HOWARD LIFE STORY PART 6B

WHY DID OAKLAND NOT BURN BACK IN THE 1960’S SINCE THE MEDIA PLAYED US UP TO BE THE MOST MILITANT CITY IN AMERICA.

Friends, I hope you enjoyed the first six posts our series detailing the life of Oakland original pioneer, film maker, engineer, TV producer, and night club owner–just to name a few titles–Mr. Ed Howard.

In the second half of our sixth segment, a two-part story especially timely given the current civil rights movement in our streets, Mr. Howard in his own words memories from his role in Oakland’s political movements of the 1960’s.

Apollo Papafrangou

ED HOWARD’S LIFE STORY:

I know now why I made such a vital impact with the Kaiser Industries Advisory Board members because at the time they had no real connection to the Black community.

Kaisers Engineers promoted me from the Configuration Engineering Designer and gave me a title of Assistant to the Vice President of Kaiser Engineers and et on the Kaiser Industries Board of Directors; and an office next to his; and my own secretary – I was still in my 20’s.

I was the brainchild of the things I made happen At Kaiser (listed below) through my position listed above working with the Kaiser Volunteers who donated their time and skills to local Black business projects.

In the listings below, every time you see the word DIGNITY and NAIROBI CONSULTANT AND ASSOCIATES it’s the same as saying the Afro American Association.

• I Designed the Configuration Engineering Drafting Training program, interviewed each trainee and was their teacher for two years (two different classes); and placed them in Kaiser Engineers and Kaiser Industries Engineering design departments after they completed the program.

• Summer Hiring Program: Placed high school students in Corporation Business office training positions each summer.

• Dignity Inc.: The economic arm of the Afro-American Association and that arm were Attorney Don Warden and myself.

• I was the Producer of the Black Dignity TV Show on KGO-TV in San Francisco California.

 Nairobi Consultant and Associates

• Dignity Enterprises

• Dignity Sewing Company

• Dignity Mobile Car Wash

• Nairobi Consultant and Associates (Black professionals and business supporters)

• Dignity Press (I personally signed for a loan of $50, 000 from Bank of America for the printing facility, equipment and production stock for this business start-up).

• Dignity Wooden containers pallets and other related products. (I redesigned the first pallet).

The activities above were widely known in Black Oakland.

READ THE KAISER HOME OFFICE NEWSLETTER FOR MORE DETAILS ABOUT THESE PROGRAMS

Many people in the media at that time speculated that Oakland would burn – not one match was ever scratched. Black Oakland was too busy taking advantage of the opportunities being opened up to us.

STAY TUNED: Ed Howard resigns from Kaiser and goes into business for himself in the coming 7th segment.
